The service
TMT, also known as a stress test, evaluates how your heart responds to physical activity. It is useful in diagnosing coronary artery disease and determining the effectiveness of your heart medications. Dr. Siddharth Sonkamble conducts and reviews every treadmill test at the clinic in Nerul East, Navi Mumbai, and patients from Seawoods and across Navi Mumbai are welcome.

Is it right for you
Chest discomfort or breathlessness while walking or climbing stairs can point to reduced blood supply to the heart muscle, which a resting ECG may not show.
The test records your ECG, heart rate and blood pressure as exercise intensity increases, helping identify arteries that may be narrowed.
TMT helps determine how well your heart medications are working and guides decisions about further tests or treatment.
The test measures your aerobic capacity and helps stratify cardiovascular risk, guiding exercise plans and follow-up care.
The test, step by step
Plan for about 30 to 45 minutes at the clinic. The walking portion itself usually lasts 7 to 12 minutes.
A few sticky electrodes are placed on your chest, and baseline ECG, heart rate and blood pressure readings are taken.
You start walking slowly on the treadmill, and its speed and incline increase gradually every few minutes following a standard medical protocol.
Your ECG, heart rate and blood pressure are monitored continuously. Tell the team at once if you feel chest pain, dizziness or unusual breathlessness.
The test ends when your target heart rate is reached, symptoms appear, or Dr. Sonkamble decides it is time to stop.
You walk slowly for a few minutes to cool down while your recovery readings are recorded.
Before you come
Eat a light meal two to three hours before the test and avoid a heavy meal just beforehand.
Avoid tea, coffee and other caffeine, and avoid smoking, for a few hours before the test.
Take your regular medicines unless Dr. Sonkamble advises otherwise — mention every medicine you take when you book.
Wear loose, comfortable clothing and closed shoes you can walk in.
Bring earlier reports such as ECG or 2D ECHO, along with a list of your current medicines.
Avoid strenuous exercise just before the test and come well rested.
You can return to your normal activities afterwards. Dr. Sonkamble reviews your readings and discusses the result with you, along with any further tests or changes to your treatment. If you feel unwell at any point during the test, it is stopped immediately — your safety is monitored throughout.
